STOP 1 Days 1 & 2 The City That Will Steal Your Hear
Pokhara, Gandaki Province · Mountains · Lakes · Sunrises · Adventure
Pokhara
sits at 822 metres above sea level beside the beautiful Phewa Lake. It is warm,
colourful, and completely unlike Kathmandu. There are no ancient temples
crowded together here instead, there is a long lakeside promenade with cafes
and restaurants, boat hire stalls, paragliding launch sites, and always,
always, those mountains watching over everything from behind.
You
will spend two days here, and two days will feel both too short and exactly
right.
- Sarangkot Sunrise: Early morning drive to Sarangkot to witness one of
Nepal’s most famous sunrises. As the sun rises, the Annapurna range
and Machapuchare
gradually glow from pink to golden.
- Annapurna Range View: Enjoy spectacular views of the Annapurna
massif, including Annapurna I (8,091m), Machapuchare,
Dhaulagiri,
and Manaslu,
visible from different parts of Pokhara.
- Phewa Lake Boat Ride: Relax with a peaceful boat ride on Phewa
Lake, where the Annapurna mountains beautifully reflect on the
calm water.
- Tal Barahi Temple: Visit the famous Tal
Barahi Temple, a pagoda-style temple located on an island in
the middle of Phewa Lake.
- Bindhyabasini Temple: One of the oldest temples in
Pokhara, dedicated to Goddess Bhagwati,
offering spiritual atmosphere and mountain views.
💡
Local tip: The
lakeside area of Pokhara (called 'Lakeside' or 'Baidam') is a lovely place to
walk in the evening browse handicraft shops, try lakeside restaurants (many
with mountain-view terraces), and pick up pashmina shawls, Thangka art, and
handmade jewellery at very reasonable prices.
🍽️ Must eat in Pokhara: Fresh trout from Phewa Lake,
lakeside momos (Nepali dumplings), Newari khaja set, and a warm cup of butter
tea or Nepali masala chai while watching the mountains. Many restaurants also
serve excellent Italian, Japanese, and Indian food.
STOP 2 Day 3 (en route to Chitwan) Wish-Fulfilling Goddess
Manakamana, Gorkha District · Cable Car · Sacred Temple · Mountain Views · Spiritual Darshan
Most
people who visit Nepal for the first time have never heard of Manakamana before
arriving. And then they visit and it becomes one of the most memorable stops of
the entire trip.
Manakamana
sits on a high hilltop in Gorkha District, between Pokhara and Chitwan. The
only way to reach it is by cable car Nepal's first and most famous cable car which
lifts you from the banks of the Trishuli River up the forested hillside in just
ten minutes. As the cable car rises, the valley below opens up beneath you. You
can see two rivers the Trishuli and Marsyangdi winding like silver ribbons
through the gorge hundreds of metres below. And ahead, through the haze, the
Manaslu and Annapurna peaks emerge.
WHAT YOU WILL SEE & EXPERIENCE
- Manakamana Cable Car :Enjoy
a scenic 10-minute cable car ride from Kurintar to the hilltop, offering
beautiful aerial views of the Trishuli River, green hills, and distant
Himalayan peaks.
- Manakamana Devi Temple:
Visit the sacred temple dedicated to Goddess Bhagwati, where devotees
come to pray and seek blessings.
- Himalayan Panorama: On
clear days, enjoy distant views of the Manaslu range and surrounding
Himalayan landscapes.
- Valley & Gorge Views:Admire
scenic views of the Trishuli River gorge, terraced hills, and beautiful
Nepali countryside from the cable car.
🛕
Good to know: Manakamana
is most crowded on Saturdays and during Hindu festivals especially Navaratri
(September-October). For a more peaceful visit, Guru Travels plans your visit
on a weekday morning wherever possible. Remove footwear before entering the
temple and cover your shoulders and knees with a scarf.
📸
Photography note: Photography
is permitted in the courtyard and cable car, but ask permission before
photographing inside the main temple sanctuary. The cable car descent at golden
hour offers some of the most dramatic valley photos of the entire trip.
STOP 3 Days 3, 4 & 5 Where the Jungle Comes Alive
Chitwan National Park, Bagmati Province · Rhinos · Elephants · Crocodiles · Tigers · Tharu Culture
After
the mountains of Pokhara and the hilltop spirituality of Manakamana, Chitwan
delivers something completely different a primal, electric encounter with the
natural world.
Chitwan
National Park covers 952 square kilometres of lowland jungle, open grassland,
and river in southern Nepal.
Today,
Chitwan is home to over 700 one-horned rhinoceroses, more than 100 Royal Bengal
tigers, wild Asian elephants, four species of deer, sloth bears, leopards,
gharial crocodiles, and over 600 species of birds.
But
Chitwan is not just about wildlife. The Tharu people an indigenous community
who have lived in the Chitwan valley for centuries have a vibrant culture of
their own. Their stick dances, folk music, traditional clay houses, and organic
way of life add a rich human dimension to the jungle experience.
You
will spend two nights here. It will not feel like enough.
WHAT YOU WILL SEE & EXPERIENCE
- One-Horned Rhinoceros:Spot Nepal’s iconic Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros, commonly seen grazing
in the grasslands of Chitwan National Park during jeep safaris.
- Royal Bengal Tiger: Experience
the thrill of searching for the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger, one of the
most endangered and fascinating animals in the jungle.
- Rapti River Canoe Ride:
Enjoy a peaceful canoe ride on the Rapti River, where you may spot gharial
and mugger crocodiles relaxing along the riverbanks.
- Bird Watching: Discover
over 600 bird species, including hornbills, kingfishers, and storks,
making Chitwan a paradise for bird lovers.
- Tharu Cultural Dance Show:Enjoy
an evening Tharu cultural dance performance with traditional music,
stick dances, and vibrant local costumes.
🦏
Safari tip: Wear
muted colours khaki, olive, brown, or dark green. Bright colours and strong
perfumes can disturb animals. The morning safari (6:00-9:00 AM) is the best
time for wildlife sightings don't miss it even if you have to wake early.
🌙
Evening experience: After
the Tharu dance show, sit quietly outside your lodge in the dark. The jungle
sounds at night in Chitwan distant elephant trumpets, the sawing call of a
leopard, the chorus of frogs and insects are as thrilling as anything you see
in daylight.
STOP 4 Days 5 & 6 Where World Found Peace
Lumbini, Province No. 5 · Birthplace of Buddha · UNESCO Site · World Monasteries · Sacred Garden
In 623
BC, in a garden that was then part of the ancient kingdom of Kapilavastu, Queen
Maya Devi gave birth to a prince named Siddhartha Gautama. He grew up in a
palace of great privilege, left it at the age of 29 to understand human
suffering, spent years meditating and wandering, and eventually attained
enlightenment under a Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, India. He became the Buddha the
Awakened One and spent the next 45 years teaching what he had understood.
His
teachings the Dharma spread across Asia, reached the West, and today guide the
lives of over 500 million people. He is considered one of the most influential
human beings who ever lived. And it all started here, in this garden.
Lumbini
was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Since then, Buddhist
nations from around the world have built monasteries here over 30 countries
have a monastery in the Lumbini Monastic Zone. Walking through it is like
taking a slow journey around the Buddhist world in a single afternoon.
Whether
you are Buddhist, Hindu, religious, or not religious at all Lumbini will move
you. It is that kind of place.
WHAT YOU WILL SEE & EXPERIENCE
- Maya Devi Temple: Visit
the sacred birthplace of Gautama Buddha at Maya Devi Temple, where a stone
marker identifies the exact spot of his birth.
- Ashoka Pillar: See
the historic pillar built by Ashoka the Great in 249 BC confirming Lumbini as
the birthplace of Buddha.
- Puskarini Sacred Pond: Explore
the peaceful pond where Queen Maya Devi is believed to have bathed before
giving birth to Prince Siddhartha.
- Eternal Peace Flame: Witness
the continuously burning flame symbolizing world peace and harmony,
located in the Sacred Garden.
- Myanmar Golden Temple: Admire
the beautiful golden pagoda built in Burmese style by the Myanmar government.
- World Peace Pagoda: Visit
the peaceful stupa built by Japanese monks promoting global peace and harmony.
- Lumbini Museum: Learn
about the history of Lumbini through archaeological artifacts, ancient coins,
and historical displays.
🧘 How to experience Lumbini properly: Don't rush. Walk the full
length of the Monastic Zone canal (about 1.5 km each way). Remove your shoes at
each monastery entrance. Sit inside at least two or three of them. Watch the
monks. Let the silence work. The travellers who get the most from Lumbini are
always the ones who gave it time.
Best Time to Take This Tour
- October
– November (Autumn): Crystal-clear skies, perfect mountain views in Pokhara, Nepal's
peak season. This is when the mountains are most visible and the national parks
most active.
- March –
May (Spring): Warm weather, rhododendrons blooming on the hillsides,
excellent wildlife activity in Chitwan. Second most popular season.
- December
– February (Winter): Sunny and pleasant in Chitwan and Lumbini, cooler mornings in
Pokhara. Great for wildlife (fewer mosquitoes, good visibility) and a quieter
experience overall.
The
only season to approach with caution is the heavy monsoon (July–August), when
roads can be wet and Chitwan becomes humid. However even then, the lush green
landscape is genuinely beautiful and prices are lower.
