Badimalika Trek Overview

One of the most interesting and little-traveled trekking trails in western Nepal is the Badimalika trek. This trip offers the ideal fusion of spiritual meaning, cultural diversity, and scenic beauty. Crossing high passes, touring ethnic towns, seeing the unspoiled nature, camping in isolated natural areas, and taking in stunning scenery are among experiences offered by the walk. A major attraction of this walk is the Badimalika Temple, which is devoted to Goddess Bhagwati and is situated in the Bajura area of the Seti Zone. Although it is mostly a religious journey, it also passes through several stunning locations with a wide variety of natural and cultural features. Situated atop a hill, the Badimalika Temple is the focal point of the route, and its allure is enhanced by breathtaking views of the Api and Saipal mountain ranges.

The Khaptad National Park, a tiny but biologically varied park in the area, might be included in the journey for those who are interested. Within the borders of Khaptad National Park, which is home to more than 567 plant species, 23 animal species, 287 bird species, and 23 amphibian and reptilian species, is Badimalika. One of the most important religious locations in Nepal is Badimalika Temple, which stands 4,200 meters above sea level. Trekkers must rely on tented camping and carry their supplies in the highest sections because there are no human settlements, while rudimentary tea shops and lodges are accessible at lower elevations. Trekkers may explore this unexplored area and take in breathtaking views of the Api and Saipal mountain ranges with the help of a carefully thought-out itinerary and knowledgeable guides. We may also set up the Api Saipal Trek for anyone who are interested.

The trek's schedule is adaptable and can be changed to incorporate additional neighboring trekking locations. Combining the Khaptad National Park Trek, a small but intriguing location with spiritual significance as the abode of Khaptad Baba, with the Badimalika Trek is a common choice. The trail offers unparalleled views of the mountains, lush greenery, and vibrant wildflowers, especially during the spring. However, trekkers should be prepared for challenging conditions, as the Badimalika trek is among the more demanding routes in western Nepal. While the trail is open year-round, heavy snowfall in winter may limit access to some parts.

Best Time to Visit Badimalika Temple

Although the trek is accessible all year round, the best time to go is in the fall (September to November), when the skies are clear, the temperature is moderate, and the visibility is excellent, providing breathtaking views of the landscape. This time of year also happens to be Nepal's busiest trekking and mountaineering season, drawing adventurers from all over the world. The spring (March to May) is another great time to go because nature is at its most vibrant, with vibrant rhododendrons and wildflowers bringing color to the landscape, especially in the area surrounding Khaptad National Park

Summary of Badimalika Trek

The journey begins with a trip to Dhangadhi, a major commercial hub in the extreme west of Nepal. You can drive through Godavari for four hours from Dhangadhi to Dadeldhura, which is 2,000 meters above sea level. The Ugratara Temple and Amargadhi Fort, which offer breathtaking views of the Api and Saipal mountains, are among the many historical and cultural sites in this region.

Another picturesque drive will take you to Jadang (3,827 meters), where the trip officially starts. The trek's main attractions are Budha Krodh, which is renowned for its verdant surroundings, streams, and waterfalls; Triveni, a revered religious site that is crowded with pilgrims during important holidays like Janai Purnima; and Dhawalpura Lake, a tranquil body of water situated at 2,556 meters amid thick forests.

Other notable spots include Silgadhi, the district headquarters, where you can visit the Shaileshwori Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Parvati. Lamagadh offers panoramic views of the Bajura district. The trek concludes with a return to Dhangadhi and a flight back to Kathmandu, wrapping up this memorable journey.

Badimalika Temple

Thousands of pilgrims travel to Badimalika Temple each year from Nepal and India during holidays like Janai Purnima and Ganga Dashara. They set out on this challenging journey in search of benefits and to satisfy their spiritual cravings. A local guide is crucial because the trail is isolated and devoid of obvious signs. Amazing views of the Api and Saipal mountain ranges, however, are the reward for the effort.

In the culturally vibrant Bajura district, local communities perform traditional dances like Deuda, Bhuwo, Hudkeuli, and Thadi. Hindu mythology links the temple's site to the legend of Lord Shiva carrying the dismembered body of his wife Sati, with parts of her body falling at different locations as it decayed. It is believed that her left shoulder landed on Mallagiri Mountain. The trek reaches an elevation of 4,200 meters at its highest point.
