Admire breathtaking views of Everest and the surrounding peaks, take in the Sherpa people's unique warmth, and see historic monasteries, such as the well-known Tengboche Monastery.
This well-thought-out schedule ensures appropriate acclimatization and a rewarding experience while you stand at the base of the tallest peak in the world. If you want to take on more difficult tasks than 16N/17D 3 Pass trek can be one of extreme adventures.

The Ideal Time of Year to Trek to Everest Base Camp
Selecting the appropriate season is essential for a safe and enjoyable trip to Everest Base Camp.
- March through May is considered spring.
One of the best seasons to trek to Everest Base Camp is in the spring. The climate is moderate, with pleasant temperatures that make trekking possible. Beautiful scenery is created as trails come to life with blossoming flowers and colorful greenery. Adventurers favor this season because it provides a comfortable and attractive trekking experience.
- Autumn Season (September to November)
Another fantastic opportunity to visit Everest Base Camp is in the fall. Views of the Himalayan peaks are breathtaking when the sky is clear and the air is fresh from the mountains. You can also experience the Mani Rimdu festival, a colorful 19-day celebration celebrated by the Buddhist community, if you plan your walk during October.
- Avoiding the Summer (Monsoon) Season
Due to strong rains and unpredictable weather, trekking is not recommended during the summer monsoon season (June to August), as this might make the trip risky and challenging. Still, Guru Travels can assist in planning an appropriate Himalayan trip, taking into account the seasonal challenges to ensure a safe and pleasurable trek, if summer is your only available travel window.
How Difficult is the 14-Day Everest Base Camp Trek?
The Everest Base Camp trek is considered a moderate-level trek and is suitable for most travelers. While it can be a bit challenging for beginners, it’s manageable with basic fitness and preparation. The trail involves plenty of uphill and downhill walks across rocky terrain, which can be tiring.
You’ll also need to be mindful of altitude sickness and unpredictable weather as the trek goes above 5,000 meters. Although there are no technical climbing sections, the daily ascents and descents can be tough for first-timers. However, with determination and a positive mindset, anyone can complete this 14-day adventure in the Himalayas.
Permits Required for the Everest Base Camp Trek
Permits are mandatory for the Everest Base Camp trek, as they allow you to access the restricted regions. Two main permits are required: the Khumbu Rural Municipality Permit and the Sagarmatha National Park Permit.
The Khumbu Rural Municipality Permit is needed to enter the Khumbu region. It costs NPR 2,000 (USD 20) per person for the first four weeks and NPR 2,500 (USD 25) afterward. This permit can only be purchased at Lukla or Monjo and is not available in Kathmandu.
The Sagarmatha National Park Permit is necessary because the trek passes through the park. The cost is NPR 3,000 (USD 30) per person for foreigners, NPR 1,500 (USD 15) for SAARC citizens, and NPR 100 for Nepalese. You can obtain this permit from the entry gate in Monjo or the Tourist Service Center in Kathmandu.
